At the Guildhall, Brecon

When it comes to planning your perfect day The Chamber at The Guildhall Brecon is a Grade 11 listed building built in 1624 and redesigned and renovated during the reign of Queen Victoria.  The Chamber used for Weddings and Civil Partnerships is one of the finest public rooms in Breconshire.  It is rich in history and tradition and deeply rooted in the town’s cultural heritage.  The double door entrance and reception rooms epitomise Victorian elegance and the sweeping staircase offers perfect photographic opportunities.  The Chamber seats up to 80 guests.                                  

Weddings and Civil Partnerships may be held at the Guildhall on any day apart from Bank Holidays. There is an additional charge for weddings held on Saturday and Sunday. 

Prior to making any arrangements please contact the Powys Registration Service.  Telephone: 0845 602 7038.  Email: registrar@powys.gov.uk .  Office Hours, Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Fridays until 4.30pm. 

Without the presence of the Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar there cannot be a marriage, please contact the Powys Registration Service to ensure the registrar is able to conduct your wedding/civil partnership on your chosen day.

Only civil non religious ceremonies are permitted by the Superintendent Registrar.  Any music, reading, words or performance which forms part of the ceremony must be secular.  The content of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent Registrar who will be attending the ceremony.

Silk Flower arrangements are provided free of charge. These arrangements may not be altered or rearranged.  If you would prefer your own floral arrangements, antique wooden stands may be hired at a cost of £10 per stand.  Silk flowers arranged by Toose.

Wedding cake may be served on the vestibule table which will be covered.  Suitable plates may be hired.  No other food may be served.

The Guildhall  Flower

100 Italian Crystal champagne flutes are available for hire at a cost of 25 pence per glass.  Damage or breakages will be charged at £10 per glass.  You may purchase your own champagne/orange juice.  No alcoholic drinks or bottles may be on display whilst the Registrar is on the premises.  No charge is allowed to be made for any beverage.

There are facilities for chilling up to twenty five bottles of champagne/sparkling wine.

A book of readings, poems and vows suitable for civil weddings and partnerships is available at the Guildhall for reference.

A compact disc system is available for use, the operation of the machine and playing of the music must be privately arranged.  A disc of music suitable for civil weddings is available for the occasion.

A silver stand for displaying a seating plan may be used.  Please note in designing the plan a piece of A3 card should be used.

VENUE/ROOM HIRE FEE/SCALE Bride 
Monday - Friday, not including Bank Holidays £400
Weekends - Saturday and Sunday £500
Unless previously agreed the duration of hire of The Guildhall for a wedding is 2 Hours.
50% of the cost is required on confirmation of booking - this is non returnable. The full cost must be recieved twenty one days prior to the wedding. Cheques should be made payable to Brecon Town Council
There will be an administrative charge when dates of booking are changed. £25

 

Disabled Access may be obtained from the Lion Street entrance at the rear of the premises.  There is a disabled lift which provides access to a DDA compliant toilet on the first floor.  Please inform the Town Clerk as soon as possible if you will require these arrangements to be made.

There will be one reserved space in the High Street outside the Guildhall for the Bride to enter the building and for the Bride and Groom's car at the end of the ceremony.  Other limited parking is available within the town centre and may be viewed on the above Contact Us page. 

A pictorial map by Arthouse Graphics is available for sale from the Council Offices and would make a nice memento of the day.

UNFORTUNATELY THE USE OF CONFETTI, ROSE PETALS OR RICE IS NOT PERMITTED.
