Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery The Museum houses remarkable items on three floors of the early Victorian Brecknock Shire Hall. The Museum has a warm and comfortable feel and is a delight to explore. The largest exhibit is the preserved Victoria Assize Court . A courtroom drama set during the 1880 Assizes is spectacularly interpreted with thirty life-sized figures, sound and light. The ten minute show starts at the press of a button. Powys Family History Society
The Brecknock Family History Group was formed in 1985 as a sub-branch of the Powys Family History Society. Our Group members share interests in family and local history of the county of Breconshire. Many, but not all our members, have Breconshire ancestry, and many, but not all, live in Breconshire. Members attend our monthly meetings in Brecon, and take part in the various activities and projects organised by the Group Committee.
What Do We Do?
Our aims are to record, preserve and make available Breconshire resources, such as Monumental Inscriptions and Parish Records, which are of value to family history researchers. We are also pleased to assist anyone with individual research and help beginners get started with this absorbing hobby.

Brecknock Women's Aid
Brecknock Women's Aid provides services to women and children fleeing domestic abuse either through the provision of temporary refuge or support in their own homes. Holistic support is provided to rebuild independent lives, to develop self-confidence and emotional stability, plus signposting to other agencies for complex needs. There are floating support and outreach services based in Ystradgynlais and Brecon and a 24-hour on call service. Domestic abuse training and information on services is provided to other agencies. |

Brecon Cathedral
The Church in Wales Cathedral of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. Brecon Cathedral has been the site of Christian worship for more than a thousand years, dating from the days of the Celtic Church before the Norman Conquest. In 1093 a Benedictine Priory linked to Battle Abbey was established here and continued in existence until the dissolution of the monasteries in 1537. The building then served the community as a Parish Church, and in 1923 because the Cathedral Church of the newly founded Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. The Cathedral stands as a witness to the faith of generations past, and as the home of a present Christian Community. |

Volunteering is an important expression of citizenship and an essential component of democracy. Brecon Volunteer Bureau is a local 'one stop shop' for volunteers and voluntary organisations. The main activities are:

Christ College Brecon
Christ College Brecon is one of Britain's most ancient schools. It was founded by Royal Charter in 1541 by King Henry VIII. It occupies an enviable site on the outskirts of Brecon, within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The school buildings reflect the school's ancient past as well as its determination to provided the best modern facilities possible for it's pupils. The Chapel and Dining Hall, both in daily use, date from the 13th Century when the site was occupied by a Dominican Priory. Crickhowell Walking Festival
The 2010 Festival will start on 27th February and again run for 8 days, we are currently planning the usual wide range of interesting guided walks for all ages and abilities. We will be including some old favourites, but also introducing new walks to different parts of the Black Mountains.

Red Kite Feeding Centre
The Red Kite Feeding station at Gigrin Farm attracts as many as 400 of these beautiful birds of prey, together with buzzards, ravens and other species. The visitor can observe this from five comfortable, permanent hides, three of which are wheelchair friendly, and see their stunning aerial displays as they dive out of the sky to pick up the food spread for them.
Gigrin Farm also has an interpretive centre where visitors can control the camera that overlooks the feeding site, use interactive computer displays, see into a Red Kite nest and watch video recordings of the farm's bagders. www.gigrin.co.uk/ |

Royal Regiment of Wales (Brecon) Museum
The regimental collections of The South Wales Borderers (24th Regiment), The Monmouthshire Regiment and The Royal Regiment of Wales are the focus of well presented displays in this fine regimental museum. Of particular interest are the exhibits covering the activities of 24th Regiment during the Anglo-Zulu War including the heroic defence of Rorke’s Drift in January 1879. The medal room contains nearly 3,500 medals and the sixteen Victoria Crosses won by members of the Regiment form an impressive central display. The regimental archive and library are on the same site and may be viewed by appointment with the Curator.

Mondays to Fridays throughout the year, 10am-5pm.
Summer Saturdays and Bank Holidays: 10am-4pm.
